Skin Art Tattoo Studio Introduce

For individuals in Jacksonville, North Carolina, seeking "Tattoo Shops Near Me," it is essential to conduct thorough research before choosing a studio. Skin Art Tattoo Studio, located at 331 Western Blvd B, Jacksonville, NC 28546, USA, can be contacted at (910) 577-1366 or +1 910-577-1366. However, recent customer reviews raise significant concerns regarding the quality of their body art services and their approach to customer care.

Multiple reviews from individuals who received tattoos at Skin Art Tattoo Studio paint a concerning picture of the quality of work and the professionalism of at least one artist, Allen Mishoe. One customer's experience details a tattoo that, upon healing, appeared poorly executed, resembling "something a child colored in a coloring book." This was compounded by an "ink blowout," where the ink seeped into the surrounding skin, creating a noticeable green hue around the tattoo. The customer explicitly states this was "by far the worst tattoo I’ve ever gotten in my life," despite having numerous other tattoos.

Another review echoes these sentiments, expressing disappointment with a tattoo that did not match the desired design. The customer points out issues such as uneven lines, misshapen circles, and incomplete coloring, leading to an overall appearance lacking symmetry and resembling a drawing by an 11-year-old. This discrepancy between the desired outcome and the actual tattoo is a significant concern for anyone considering Skin Art Tattoo Studio.

Beyond the aesthetic issues with the tattoos themselves, the reviews also highlight unprofessional practices during the tattooing process. One customer recounts that the artist, Allen Mishoe, did not adequately clean off excess ink after completion, leaving the client's arm stained yellow. Furthermore, this artist reportedly does not "believe" in using Tegaderm, a widely accepted and often recommended adhesive bandage for promoting tattoo healing. Instead, a traditional bandage was applied, taped to the arm, while the client was still covered in excess ink. The customer who experienced this provided a detailed explanation of the benefits of Tegaderm, including protection against infection, faster healing, reduced friction and irritation, prevention of ink loss, and overall convenience, contrasting these advantages with the "old school" method used at the studio.

Adding to the concerns about hygiene and preparation, one reviewer noted that the artist who performed their tattoo, Allen Mishoe, did not shave the arm prior to tattooing and did not use disinfectant spray. Instead, the arm was reportedly wiped with a paper towel moistened with tap water from a nearby sink. These practices raise serious questions about the studio's adherence to basic hygiene standards necessary for safe tattooing and infection prevention.

The negative experiences extend beyond the quality of the tattoos themselves. One customer's girlfriend also received a disappointing tattoo at Skin Art Tattoo Studio, which subsequently developed an ink blowout. Despite these significant issues with the artwork, the reviewer states that neither the owner nor the manager of Skin Art Tattoo Studio has reached out to address the problems or offer any form of resolution. This lack of customer service and accountability is particularly concerning for a studio that claims to have been in business for 40 years, as it suggests a disregard for customer satisfaction and the quality of their work.

While one review mentions that the physical appearance of the studio is "nice," this positive aspect is overshadowed by the negative outcomes of the tattoos and the lack of follow-up from the management. The sentiment expressed is that despite a potentially appealing facade, the actual results and the absence of accountability speak volumes about the overall experience at Skin Art Tattoo Studio.

Based on the information available from these customer reviews, potential clients should be aware of the reported issues, which include:

  • Poor Tattoo Quality: Instances of uneven lines, misshapen figures, incomplete coloring, and overall lack of symmetry, resulting in tattoos that appear amateurish.
  • Ink Blowout: A significant issue where tattoo ink spreads beyond the intended lines, causing a blurred or discolored appearance around the tattoo.
  • Unprofessional Practices: Failure to adequately clean the skin before tattooing, use of tap water instead of disinfectant, and a refusal to use recommended aftercare products like Tegaderm.
  • Lack of Proper Aftercare Instructions: Providing only a basic bandage and neglecting to inform clients about more effective healing methods.
  • Poor Customer Service: Failure of the owner or manager to address complaints or offer resolutions for unsatisfactory work, despite the significant distress caused to the customers.
  • Shaky and Nervous Artist: One reviewer noted that the artist appeared shaky and nervous during the tattooing process, which they identified as a potential warning sign.

Given these detailed and negative experiences reported by multiple customers, individuals searching for "Tattoo Shops Near Me" in Jacksonville, NC, should exercise caution and consider these reviews carefully before choosing Skin Art Tattoo Studio. While the studio has been established for a considerable time, the recent feedback indicates potential issues with the quality of their tattoo work, hygiene practices, and customer service. It is advisable to seek out other tattoo studios in the Jacksonville area that have a more consistently positive track record of customer satisfaction and professional standards.

Prospective clients might want to look for studios that:

  • Showcase a portfolio of high-quality, well-executed tattoos.
  • Have positive and recent reviews specifically mentioning the skill of the artists, the cleanliness of the studio, and the quality of aftercare advice.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to hygiene by using proper sterilization techniques and preparing the skin appropriately before tattooing.
  • Recommend or offer modern aftercare solutions like Tegaderm.
  • Have a reputation for addressing customer concerns professionally and offering solutions when issues arise.

In conclusion, while Skin Art Tattoo Studio has a long history in Jacksonville, NC, the recent customer reviews present serious concerns about the quality of their tattoo services and their approach to customer satisfaction. Individuals seeking body art in this area are strongly encouraged to weigh this negative feedback carefully and consider alternative tattoo studios with more consistently positive reviews and demonstrated commitment to professional standards and customer care.

UPDATE: My tattoo is now fully healed, and it looks even worse than before. It literally looks like something a child colored in a coloring book. To make matters worse, I have an ink blowout… there’s a green hue all around the tattoo, and the ink has seeped into the surrounding skin. This is by far the worst tattoo I’ve ever gotten in my life, and I have a lot of them. I hate leaving bad reviews, but the tattoo I got was so poorly done that I had to say something. In the pictures I’ve attached, you can see what I wanted and then what I actually got. The lines aren’t straight, the circles are uneven, and some areas aren’t fully colored in. Overall, it looks like my 11-year-old daughter drew it—there’s no symmetry whatsoever. When he finished, I couldn’t tell exactly what it looked like because he didn’t clean off all the excess ink, so my arm was completely stained yellow. He also doesn’t “believe” in using Tegaderm to cover healing tattoos because he’s “old school,” even though Tegaderm has been shown to promote better healing. Instead, he just slapped on a bandage, taped it to my arm, and sent me on my way—still covered in yellow ink. I was so excited to get this tattoo, and now I’m devastated that it turned out this badly. It’s something that will be on my skin forever, and I can’t believe how careless and unprofessional the work is. The person who did my tattoo was Allen Mishoe. He was always very shaky and seemed nervous, which should have been our first clue. He also did not shave my arm first, and did not use disinfectant spray. He just got a paper towel wet with water from the sink next to him, straight from the tap, and wiped my arm with it. I wanted to update my review to explain the benefits of using Tegaderm and why it’s better than the “old school” method. I’ve gotten many tattoos, and the ones where Tegaderm started being used have healed the best and still look fresh: Benefits of Using Tegaderm on Fresh Tattoos • Protects Against Infection. • Acts as a sterile barrier against bacteria, dirt, and other contaminants. • Reduces the risk of infections compared to traditional bandages or leaving the tattoo exposed. • Promotes Faster Healing • Creates a moist healing environment, which helps the skin regenerate more quickly. • Prevents scabbing and excessive peeling, which can distort the tattoo’s appearance. • Reduces Friction & Irritation • Prevents clothing from rubbing against the tattoo. • Helps reduce itching and irritation, making the healing process more comfortable. • Prevents ink loss & keeps colors vibrant • Protects the fresh tattoo from drying out, which can lead to scabbing and ink loss. • Helps maintain the tattoo’s color saturation by keeping it hydrated. • Convenience & Less Mess • Unlike plastic wrap, which can trap too much moisture and lead to infection, Tegaderm allows the skin to breathe. • No need for frequent washing and reapplying ointments in the first few days.

My girlfriend got a tattoo here, and her experience has been nothing short of disappointing. Her full review is below for reference. Since then, things have only gotten worse. The tattoo now has an ink blowout, and if you look at the picture, you can clearly see a green tint surrounding it. Despite the poor quality of the work, no one—neither the owner nor the manager—has reached out to address the issue or offer to make it right. You’d think a shop that’s been open for 40 years would stand behind their work and provide decent customer service, but sadly, that’s not the case here. Sure, the place looks nice—but the results and the lack of accountability say otherwise. Feel free to reach out if customer satisfaction actually matters to you.

Terrible quality. I don’t know how this shop has been around since 1985. I assume they had good artists before. The work you see now is trash.

Though I was told to walk in on Saturday and the tat artist took others before me then made me come back the next day, it turned out great! He was very accommodating and did a great job. Both my wife and I got tatted and my wife got a second tragus piercing. She said it was smooth and quick, just like our tats. A different guy did her piercing and he was very professional. Josh and Jack, awesome dudes with awesome work.
