I was at the shop when the chick with the blue band was getting tattooed. (that 2 star review before mine) she was very rude and ignored the recommendations by 3 artists that her design was too much to fit into a small space and it would lack detail. She was super happy with her finished tattoo and Leif also asked her to come back if it needed touch up. She had unrealistic expectations but she left the shop happy. Shame on you for leaving that review!! Leif is one of the most talented artists and I’ve been a repeat customer for several years. The shop is clean and the people there are down to earth and make you feel welcome. Leif has a way of taking a picture out of my head and making it even better and he really cares about his clients and will go over and beyond to make sure you are happy. The shop is judgement free and I always enjoy all the conversations I have with all the artists and especially Leif. I always feel like I’m leaving my therapist’s office when I’m there and bonus I’m wearing some sick new art. I waited to post this until emotions had deescalated. In the latter half of November, I got an idea for a tattoo, and I felt I made it simple enough that no matter the tattoo artist’s style, they could bring it off. I’m posting it here so you can see what the various artists saw (and with the note "without the white boxes of course"). I shopped around, sent e-mails (with the tattoo design and pics of my wrist), read reviews. After visiting the Great Wolf Tattoo and showing my design to Leif Hansen who glanced at my design and said he could do it, and receiving multiple e-mail assurances (probably from his front desk person) they could do it “exactly as I wanted,” I put down a deposit for him to create the tattoo on December 4th. I e-mailed my design two days in advance so Leif would not be blindsided by any changes (I went from a trail of paw prints to a ribbon and reduced the number of paw prints because every artist I talked to said there would have to be less because the paw prints would bleed into each other over time). I came in and he had my design printed out on the design table but had not done anything. As he was applying the tattoo, he had the front desk girl make the stencils for the pentacle and paw prints, the rest he free handed. And what he freehanded he messed up. When he started drawing straight lines on my arm, I thought that would be the outer boundary for the ribbon. It wasn’t. He just turned it into a thick band. He did not ask, did not say he could not do the ribbon. He just went ahead and made it straight. So while the end results has elements of my design, the overall design is his. I should have said something, but I put my trust in the artist. The outer bands with the dots, he asked (mid-application) and I said yes, so I own that. The Pentacle is a little dark, but otherwise what I wanted (stencil) and the paws are great (stencils) but there are a lot of them and another artist at Self Made said they would probably bleed into one another. The heart is lopsided (freehanded) and I don’t like the banding in it. The heart I noticed right away and called him that afternoon and he said he would work on it after I healed up. What I did not realize until later (I walked out in a daze from the pain, sorry, it’s been 29 years since my last tattoo, I forgot how much it hurt) is that the whole thing is crooked in relation to my arm and hand (see pic). I spoke (and shared pictures) with another tattoo artist from Self Made Tattoo. I don’t want to name any names because I don’t want to cause any bad blood. They said the only way to fix the crooked tattoo is “with a lot of black” which I don’t want. He looked at my original design and what I had and said the only way I would be truly happy is if I have the new tattoo removed and get a completely fresh start. Well, according to my dermatologist, because of all the blue, I would have to go to New Bern to a plastic surgeon who has a Pico laser to get it removed, and that would cost upwards of $2,000. So I am stuck with it for the time being. I contacted Leif with the pictures and what the other artist had said and asked for a refund. He was extremely defensive and said “It sounds like you are unhappy with your own design” (when it is his changes to my design and elements he freehanded that he screwed up) and that he did not give refunds. He also retracted the offer to fix the heart because I had spoken with another tattoo artist. So that is my experience with Great Wolf Tattoo. Cannot recommend. Edit to respond to owner: I was unaware we had agreed in advance of the appointment, or at any time during the appointment, for entire tattoo to be off kilter or the heart being slightly smushed and lop-sided. The edge embellishments and the flesh stripe in the heart were both proposed mid-application, not planned in advance. Edit 2 to respond to "Carrie Garcia": The only other person who was in the shop at anytime during my tattoo (I was the first appointment in the morning) was the girl at the front desk who is also Leif's GF. Take that for what you will.

Amazing place to go! They were welcoming and friendly. It was my first tattoo and they were luckily nice enough to walk me through the process. I couldn't recommend them higher!

This was such a great experience with skilled professionals! Sara was lovely and walked my friends fully through the process and always made sure they were comfortable. And the final results were STUNNING! All staff were friendly and we would definitely come back for another tattoo. 10 out of 10!!
