I've been a client at Avant-Garde for years and previously had left a 5-star review, but after my last couple of experiences, I feel like I need to change it to a 4-star rating. I've always been impressed with the cleanliness, the skill, and the overall customer service of every piercer I've seen. The jewelry selection is decent too and I can usually find starter jewelry that I'm happy with. My one major gripe is how slow the entire process is here. I've been booking appointment times online since the option became available several years ago, and one would think that with an appointment made and deposit paid, a piercer would be available and ready to get set up as soon as you arrive and fill out the paperwork. My last two appointments, this was not the case. My most recent appointment earlier this month was scheduled for 12:00pm. I arrived at 11:55 and checked in. I told the person who at the counter in that I had booked a double earlobe piercing but wasn't sure if my old piercings could be re-gauged or had to be re-pierced entirely. I filled out my paperwork and took a seat in the waiting area. As I was entering the shop, and other client was just leaving, but there was nobody else in the shop besides me. It took almost 40 minutes for Brent to be available to come check out my old piercings so we could make a game plan. I have ZERO issues with Brent as the owner, as a piercing expert, or as a person. I trust him entirely with all of my piercing work. We've made good conversation during my previous appointments, he's calmed my nerves (I love having piercings, but hate getting pierced), and he's great at distracting me while he's piercing. After Brent did my consultation, it was back to the waiting area to wait for another piercer to do the actual piercing. At 1:10pm (timestamped in a text message), I was finally back in one of the piercing rooms, 70 minutes after my appointment time. My piercer was great too, zero complaints about the quality of customer service or my piercer. However... I have a text message timestamped that I was all set and leaving the shop at 1:52pm. My entire appointment lasted almost two hours. I understand that organization and sterilization takes time. But I was only actually with either Brent or my piercer for about 15 minutes total, and just sitting around waiting for the other ~90 minutes without a single other customer in the shop. My experience before this one was similarly long (without even requiring a consultation) but I wrote it off as a fluke that time. But now that it happened again, I'm hesitant to schedule an appointment for any day that I have a single other thing going on. I still love this shop and will still come here for my next piercing, but if this becomes a trend then I may have to reevaluate. I feel like a Karen for saying that, but there has to be a line somewhere. Piercings do not need to be all-day events.

First time and first nose piercing and 10/10 experience! From the staff who checked me in (wish i got their name) to the piercer, Katelyn - everyone made me feel comfortable and at ease even though i was super nervous! I went in as a walk-in and the wait was not long at all for a Wednesday evening. Definitely a good place and can’t say thank you enough to the wonderful staff for being so great.

I chose this shop because it was supposed to open monday at 11am and because they claim to be experts in repiercing. I arrived at 12:35pm and was surprised to see a closed sign on the door when I could see employees inside the business. I tried the door anyways just to see and it was in fact locked. I waited around for 10+ minutes just to see if they were late opening. They never aknowledged that I was there. The piercer was inside fiddling with the jewelery and the tattoo artist seemed to be giving someone a tattoo. I am highly disappointed because I came here by bus to get my eyebrow repierced on my day off. Complete waste of time.

I wish I could write a positive review as I have gotten all my piercings here and have constantly referred numerous people to this shop but unfortunately it seems things have really gone down hill. We had an appointment at 2pm for our three month old which was carefully chosen based on her nap and feeding schedule so that she wouldn’t be too fussy. We had previously brought our now two year old here when she was three months old back in January of 2023 and had no issues. In fact, the piercers were so phenomenal that she barely even cried! BUT - This time around was an absolute nightmare. We waited for more than 45 minutes before being seen by the piercers. We did not even walk out of the shop until 2:54pm which is ridiculous. By this time, our daughter had fallen asleep and I knew she would wake up screaming - since I had already paid almost $100 and waited this long I was not just going to walk out. I clearly should have just reschedule because the piercers completely rushed us and I could tell they were absolutely miserable compared to our previous visit. I should add that seconds before putting the needles in her ear one of the piercers said - “Where am i putting this? Directly in the middle?” It was too late to stop what was happening as she had already pierced her ear. After that, they struggled to even get the earring twisted on which I could see caused even more issues. Unfortunately one of her earrings is now uneven and as a mom, I’m stuck feeling so guilty and upset. Like I said, we had no issues with our previous daughter and actually had a phenomenal experience this first time around. I am beyond disappointed and now contemplating what to do as our experience was horrible and I don’t know if I would ever go back.

Got a vertical labret done about 2 weeks ago and it got infected immediately even tho i hadent touched it other than to clean. And when the swelling finally went down it was crooked and completely below my lip on the bottom. I had messaged customer help and was told to come it and they would look at it and potentially fix it only to get turned away because they were closed during their open hours. Don't come here unless you want to get infected and have your peircing in the wrong spot i guess.
